Bay Area Emergency Response Plan
Metropolitan Transportation Commission

Challenge: Help MTC develop a comprehensive action plan for transportation and emergency services providers in response to issues revealed in the Loma Prieta earthquake of 1989.

Role: Communicate with key agencies and facilitate regional workshops on earthquake preparedness.

Result: A consolidated action plan defining and expanding the Bay Area’s emergency response capabilities for the future, including review of the best methods to communicate with the public after an earthquake or major disaster.

 

 

Santa Cruz Branch Rail Line
Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation

Challenge: Evaluate environmental impacts of developing recreational rail service along a six-mile stretch from Capitola to Aptos, with a possible extension to Seascape.

Role: Address community quality-of-life concerns, and respond to issues involving noise, air quality, traffic and safety, and hazardous materials.

Result: Evaluation of impacts is underway.

 

 

SMART Corridors Program
Alameda County Congestion Management Program

Challenge: Market to the public an advanced transportation management system along the San Pablo Avenue and the I-880 corridors, while meeting the needs of 25 cooperating agencies.

Role: Established newsletter, coordinated with multiple agencies, planned field demonstrations of technology and launched new program.

Result: Increased public awareness through the use of comprehensive outreach and marketing activities.
