Ferry Building Historic Renovation
Port of San Francisco

Challenge: Prepare and manage CEQA-mandated environmental review for the historic rehabilitation of the San Francisco Ferry Building.

Role: Utilizing Department of the Interior historical resource standards, prepare a negative declaration on environmental impacts associated with the rehabilitation. Manage the agency coordination and public review process.

Result: Successful implementation of the environmental review process and restoration of one of San Francisco’s most prominent buildings.

 

 

Alameda County Clean Water Program
Alameda County

Challenge: Raise awareness about the impacts on water quality from the commonly used pesticides diazinon and chlorpyrifos.

Role: Conduct an educational program for recreational gardeners, nursery staff, and gardening organizations on environmentally friendly yard/garden-care products, appropriate pesticide usage, and alternative methods of pest control. Provided in conjunction with an extensive media outreach and point-of-purchase messaging in stores selling pesticides.

Result: Heightened awareness of integrated pest management in Alameda County and a reduction of stormwater pollution in San Francisco Bay.

 

 

State Route 4 Gap Closure Project
Contra Costa County Transportation Authority

Challenge: Evaluate the impacts to sensitive habitats of expanding two-lane SR 4 to a four-lane highway or freeway to accommodate safer travel.

Role: Prepare and oversee all technical studies to assess impacts on five miles of wetlands, oak woodlands, and farmland; prepare a joint EIS/EIR for the project; and develop a public involvement program.

Result: A project providing improved traffic safety consistent with current land uses and visions toward future development.

 

 

San Francisco Integrated Transportation
Management System

San Francisco Department Parking and Traffic

Challenge: Create a citywide Integrated Transportation Management System (ITMS) to mitigate traffic congestion that results in delayed transit services, frustrated drivers, and increased air pollution.

Role: Evaluate public perception of the problem and potential solutions, and devise and implement a strategy to raise public awareness and support for ITMS.

Result: Increased public acceptance of ITMS improvements.
