Marin Desalination Project
Marin Municipal Water District

Challenge: Explore the feasibility of constructing a desalination facility to provide supplemental drinking water to water district customers.

Role: Assist the technical team with community outreach and public involvement throughout the development of an EIR, including planning, coordinating, documenting public meetings, and preparing informational materials.

Result: Effective outreach during the environmental review process raised public awareness of desalination issues, including costs, water quality, energy, and impacts to San Francisco Bay fisheries.

 

 

Los Vaqueros Reservoir Expansion
California Department of Water Resources
Contra Costa Water District

Challenge: Explore the feasibility of expanding Los Vaqueros Reservoir to increase water quality and reliability for Bay Area users and improve the Delta environment.

Role: Manage public outreach and interagency coordination through multi-level stakeholder involvement, issue identification, and meeting facilitation.

Result: Achieved 62% local voter support for continuing studies, defined local principles and assurances to guide development of final project and environmental mitigation, and established the agency coordination and partnership development process to build relationships leading to project approval and authorization.

 

 

Santa Clara Water Treatment Plan
Santa Clara Valley Water District

Challenge: Prepare the environmental documents necessary to improve three water treatment plants to comply with new state and federal regulations.

Role: Assess environmental issues and local concerns unique to each site, including visibility, noise, truck traffic, chemical handling, and seismic safety; recommend site-specific mitigation measures.

Result: A stand-alone environmental document for each facility, allowing improvements at each plant independently.

 

 

Wastewater Management Program
Fairfax County, Virginia Wastewater Management

Challenge: Increase customer awareness of the Fairfax County Wastewater Management Program to help attain long-term wastewater management and pollution prevention goals.

Role: Utilize defined objectives and market research to develop a customer service outreach program to measure public awareness and attitudes, track customer satisfaction, and evaluate the effectiveness of outreach strategies.

Result: Initial customer survey established the baseline assessment, program identity and outreach action plan, and website redesign. Follow-up surveys measured customer service outreach program progress and effectiveness. Preparation of Annual Report.
