Earthquake Awareness Event
American Red Cross

Challenge: Increase emergency response capabilities in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Role: Coordinate a regional “Preparefest” in Oakland’s Jack London Square with community participation, local agency representation, live music, and vendors.

Result: The 10,000 community members who attended “Preparefest” left with an increased knowledge of methods to protect themselves, their families, and their homes before, during, and after a disaster.

 

 

Draft Compact for Sustainability
Bay Area Council

Challenge: Support the Regional Agencies Smart Growth Strategy and the Bay Area Alliance for Sustainable Development Regional Livability Footprint projects with on-target communications.

Role: Set up brief editorial boards in each Bay Area county; coordinate multiple Smart Growth workshops; create outreach materials for the Smart Growth strategy and the Regional Livability Footprint projects.

Result: A higher profile and deeper understanding of Smart Growth and Sustainable Development concepts. Each workshop was attended by 100 to 150 people.

 

 

Alamo YMCA Facility
YMCA

Challenge: Assess the environmental impacts of constructing a YMCA facility on 12 acres in Alamo, California.

Role: Address extensive community concerns about traffic impacts from the new facility; conduct a sensitivity analysis to evaluate a worst case scenario; conduct biological surveys related to the construction of a bridge across San Ramon Creek.

Result: The Alamo facility was successfully designed with community concerns addressed, allowing the YMCA to provide needed recreational programs for residents of the San Ramon Valley.
