As a Sr. Project Associate, you’ll play a crucial role in delivering impactful projects, working closely with the Project Manager to keep everything on track. You’ll take the lead as Deputy Project Manager on smaller projects, ensuring smooth execution from start to finish. With your strong background in strategic communication, project planning, and budget management, you’ll be instrumental in shaping successful outcomes.
This role is perfect for someone who loves collaboration, leadership, and hands-on project management. You’ll be working with clients, internal teams, and vendors—delivering excellent service while keeping everything moving forward efficiently.
This position can work out of our Orange County, Oakland or San Jose office. All offices are hybrid.
What You’ll Do:
Project Management & Leadership
- Support the Project Manager in high-level project execution.
- Supervise, mentor, and provide guidance to team members.
- Manage specific project tasks, schedules, and budgets.
- Act as the primary client liaison on select projects.
- Oversee Associates and Coordinators in vendor/subcontractor interactions.
- Prepare progress reports for leadership and clients.
Communication & Outreach
- Develop and implement communication strategies tailored to project goals.
- Craft media action plans, reports, brochures, press releases, and presentations.
- Conduct media outreach and support public relations efforts.
- Provide analytical insights into project themes and stakeholder concerns.
Research & Content Development
- Oversee research efforts, including stakeholder interviews and surveys.
- Analyze demographic data to inform decision-making.
- Ensure high-quality production of written materials and marketing content.
Event & Meeting Coordination
- Represent the company at client meetings, public events, and industry gatherings.
- Plan and manage logistics for public meetings, including setup, documentation, and follow-ups.
- Respond knowledgeably to public questions and facilitate engagement.
Business Development & Marketing
- Identify opportunities for additional project work and new business.
- Develop marketing materials and support proposal development.
- Participate in interviews and pre-bid meetings as needed.
What You Bring to the Table:
- Degree in communication, journalism, or a related field (preferred).
- 3-5 years of experience in public outreach, communications, or project management.
- Strong customer service orientation and ability to build relationships.
- Experience in budget and schedule management.
- Strong communication, writing, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management tools.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to travel for public meetings/events (1-2 times per month), including evenings and weekends.
- Physical ability to lift and carry event supplies up to 20 lbs.

What You’ll Do:
Project Management & Execution
- Develop and implement project strategies aligned with client objectives.
- Lead project kick-off, planning, execution, and debrief meetings.

- Maintain clear and open communication with teams and clients regarding project scope, changes, and challenges.
- Ensure all project activities align with contract expectations for deliverables, budgets, and timelines.
- Proactively address scope changes, securing approvals for out-of-scope work.
- Implement cost control measures to maintain and maximize project profitability.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and motivate project teams to achieve outstanding results.
- Provide coaching and feedback to enhance team performance.
- Conduct performance reviews and identify professional development opportunities.
- Foster a collaborative, high-performance work environment.
Client Relations & Engagement
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, building and maintaining strong relationships.
- Understand client needs and proactively identify opportunities to exceed expectations.
- Provide regular progress updates and maintain transparent communication.
- Drive client satisfaction and long-term partnerships.
Business Development & Marketing
- Generate and grow new business, targeting $500,000+ in annual project work.
- Actively promote the company’s capabilities and strengths to potential clients.
- Attend pre-bid meetings, networking events, and industry engagements.
- Develop project scopes, budgets, and proposals to secure new opportunities.
- Collaborate with leadership and marketing teams on business development strategies.
- Contribute to proposal writing and project interview preparation.
What You Bring to the Table:
- Degree in communications, journalism, or a related field.
- 5-10 years of experience in project management, strategic communication, or related fields.
- Strong expertise in strategic communication and public information writing.
- Proven ability to manage budgets, schedules, and deliverables effectively.
- Client-focused mindset with exceptional relationship-building skills.
- Strong leadership, delegation, and mentoring abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail.

Role Description
The Sr. Project Manager position requires a thorough and complex understanding of CEQA and CEPA and in the transportation sector. This position is responsible for all aspects of project delivery including keeping the client informed, providing strategic management and project planning. The Sr. Project Manager will manage mid- to large-sized projects with minimal senior oversight. Circlepoint is a collaborative work environment at all levels, and this role will work closely with Managing Principals, the Business Development Team, and other teams to meet annual sales targets comprised of new and augmented contracts.
This is a full-time position, and we prefer that the team member work out of our Oakland office based on a hybrid work schedule.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in environmental planning or related field
- Minimum of four years in the transportation sector
- Minimum seven years experience in producing and managing CEQA and NEPA documentation
- Experience with CEQA and NEPA procedural requirements
- Knowledge of planning, environmental, and political issues
- Accomplished writer of business, environmental, and public information
- Ability to travel required
- Valid driver’s license and access to an automobile
Salary Range
$125,000-$144,000
